Whether it’s your birthday or simply a cause to celebrate with your loved one(s), spending the night in a luxury 5-star hotel is a great way to go. It may cost you an arm and a leg for the whole package, often including a spa, swimming pool, and endless gourmet buffet, but sometimes properly treating yourself requires going the extra mile.

Taipei, like many capital cities around the world, does not disappoint when it comes to luxury 5 star hotels. With world-renowned chains nestled in the midst of popular stand-alones in their own right, you needn’t look hard to find some of the best 5-star hotels in Taipei. But which should you choose?

Although most places are situated in and around the Xinyi and Da’an area (super wealthy and expensive neighborhoods) due to their proximity to Taipei 101 (that’s the big skyscraper), fancy hotels crop up all over Taipei.

So, without further ado, let’s dive into some of the best 5-star hotels in Taipei.

Grand Hyatt Taipei

A favorite of the Taiwanese government for hosting foreign dignitaries – Nancy Pelosi stayed here during her controversial visit – Taipei’s addition to the Hyatt brand is probably one of the most comfortable hotels you could visit in Taiwan. Luxury 5-star hotels are renowned for their ultra-special pillows and blankets, but Hyatt just takes it to another level; you never knew you could sleep this well.

With access to a gorgeous swimming pool and fitness center with a sauna – it’s open to the public for the hefty price of 6000 NTD per month – Hyatt’s amenities also do not disappoint. And neither does the food. Their buffet breakfast is to die for, with the maple syrup pecan pancakes being the best that I’ve had this side of the Pacific Ocean. You can quote me on that.

With a bridge connecting the hotel to the mall under Taipei 101, and close access to both the Taipei International Convention Center and the Taipei World Trade Center, mixing business with pleasure is easy at Grand Hyatt. A definite splurge if you find yourself in Taipei.

The Regent Taipei

Stay in the hotel where Scarlet Johanssen’s film ‘Lucy’ was set. We can’t vouch for any mind-bending time-altering stuff happening, but you’ll definitely have a good night’s sleep with the softest pillows and blankets known to man. Which is arguably so much better.

Widely seen as the fancy hotel in Taipei, Regent’s has it all. Satisfying the expectation of what a luxury 5 star hotel should be with a spa, fitness center, outdoor rooftop pool, and variety of different restaurants, The Regent goes above and beyond with an underground ‘galleria’ (mall) touting big name brands like Louis Vuitton and Bulgari, to name a few.

While the internal dining certainly won’t disappoint, it’s really Regent’s location that did it for me. Not far from Shilin Night Market and with a spectacular variety of restaurants and cafes dolling out Indian to Turkish cuisine, Regent’s location is definitely one for the books.

Humble House

My personal favorite of all the fancy hotels in Taipei has to be Humble House. Just an all round great experience, Humble House satisfies all the requirements of a luxury 5 star hotel from the exquisite food to the soothing pillows that made me truly tempted to stuff one into my luggage before leaving. I didn’t, but now you know what a good pillow will make you do.

Though not quite considered one of the boutique hotels in Taipei, Humble House is uniquely modern and styled, with delicious meal options. I especially recommend ordering room service for their breakfast if you can, because there’s nothing better than having a slow morning overlooking the busy rush of people down below.

Surrounded by both the Breeze and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi shopping malls, and offering guests unparalleled views of Taipei 101 from its rooftop swimming pool, Humble House need not be so humble because it is definitely one of the coolest hotels in Taipei.

Le Méridien Taipei

With a branch in Taichung and a 6-star resort (this is not a typo!) due to open soon in Hualien, Marriott’s Le Méridien is a definite source of luxury in Taiwan. And Taipei is no different. With all the amenities you’d expect from a luxury 5 star hotel – think spa, pool, gym – you’d be wrong to miss out on this choice.

Centrally located in Xinyi and in the vicinity to Humble House, Le Méridien sits across the street from IBM Taiwan and offers guests easy access to the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi shopping mall. With its central location, artsy vibe, and modern facilities, this is your classic luxury 5 star hotel.

W Taipei

Another Marriott hotel, the W Taipei is marketed as the best choice for catching up with Taipei 101 since it’s located literally right beside it. One of the coolest hotels in Taipei with all the amenities you’d expect, plus two trendy restaurants and 24 hour access to the fitness center and pool, the W Taipei is a great shout if you’re looking for something with a little more youthful style.

The W Taipei is also located in the hub of Xinyi district, so don’t worry about not finding something to do – coupled with the hotel, there’s definitely something to sort out your every need and desire!

Mandarin Oriental Taipei

It would be remiss to exclude the renowned Mandarin-Oriental from this list, seeing as how its Taipei location is such a beautiful experience. Complete with Chinese, Italian, and French restaurants – it even serves afternoon tea! – as well as an outdoor pool and spa facilities, there’s really not more you could ask for at this fancy hotel in Taipei.

The Mandarin-Oriental is also perfectly situated for those wishing to explore, learn and immerse themselves in Taipei, and is within walking distance of Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.

Grand Hotel Taipei

Established in 1952 as Taiwan’s first 5-star hotel, the Grand Hotel is a clear example of modernized old-school luxury. With its regal exterior that has made the building a Taipei landmark in its own right, the Grand Hotel has everything from an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool to four different restaurants catering to Western and Chinese cuisines.

Considered by many to be the ultimate fancy hotel in Taipei, the building has a long history of hosting state and diplomatic visits and once even housed US President Eisenhower. It’s for this specific reason that there’s actually an underground evacuation tunnel that runs beneath the hotel in the event of an attack. Can’t say that about your average luxury 5 star hotel, can you?
