Yonghua Night Market – Tainan

Yonghua Night Market (新永華夜市) is the newest night market in Tainan – if you forget that fact that it originally opened in 2000. Overcoming three shutdowns and the Covid-19 pandemic, Yonghua Night Market is a reliable local haunt that doesn’t demand reservations or watchful eyes over your belongings (Tainan Garden Night Market, I’m looking at you).

Why You Should Bother Visiting

While the parking lot that Yonghua Night Market sits on is tiny in comparison to Tainan Garden Night Market, the food offerings are still nothing to scoff at either. On one hand, you’re got the tried and true classics like fried chicken, stinky tofu, watermelon juice, and night market steak, and on the other honestly excellent gems like:

  • 肉夾饃 (roujiamo) which is like a crispy flakey bun with stewed beef, fried egg, and lettuce.
  • Fried onion pancake with aboriginal mountain pepper (makao) – it’s truly reminiscent of grilled boar in Hualien.

Yonghua Night Market also has fun entertainment, like darts, fishing, and pinball-related games. Granted, there’s not as large a selection to choose from as Wusheng Night Market, but it offers a much more varied experience than just food – like what you would find at Taoyuan’s Zhongli Night Market.

Where is Yonghua Night Market?

Yonghua Night Market is in Tainan’s Anping District, the old city of Tainan. Anping is where the Dutch first settled in the 1600s and is home to ancient ruins like Fort Zeelandia (Anping Fort) and Eternal Golden Castle. Yonghua Night Market is also within walkable distance from Yuguang Island, a popular beach to enjoy the sunset.

  • Address: Jianping 7th Street, Huaping Road, Anping District, Tainan City, 708

What are Yonghua Night Market’s Opening Hours?

  • Open Hours: Thursdays and Saturdays from 5pm to 11.30pm.
