A Guide to Heng-shan Calligraphy Park – Taoyuan

Heng-shan Calligraphy Park is one of the prettiest parks in Taiwan. Home to the Heng-shan Calligraphy Art Center, the park is a calming oasis away from the nearby hustle and bustle of Gloria Outlets Mall and Xpark Aquarium.

From an ecological steam with heaped with ferns, lilies, and fish, to tranquil riverside paths and stone tables and chairs, Heng-shan Calligraphy Park is one of the most relaxing parks in Taiwan. It was designed to be that way too.

While I’m not in possession of a drone, the shape of the lake is designed to resemble an inkwell, while the park is the inkstone. The Heng-shan Calligraphy Art Center, in addition to hosting artwork related to calligraphy, is also designed to look like ink seals.

Heng-shan Calligraphy Art Center

Heng-shan Calligraphy Art Center is the first calligraphy museum in Taiwan. Located on the Northeast side of the park, the center is a beautiful structure regardless of the time of day, though I admit that dusk is a particularly gorgeous time to admire the structure.

With a rotating array of exhibitions, Heng-shan Calligraphy Art Center is a surprising hidden gem in Taoyuan. It’s also a very popular tourist attraction, particularly among art fans.

Entrance to the Heng-shan Calligraphy Art Center isn’t free, but it’s easy to book a ticket at Klook.

There’s also a cafe within the art center, for those less keen on actually browsing the art. It’s opened till late, as is the center, so why not head on over for a nice cuppa (and cake) while you gaze through the glass-panels that overlook the park?.

Where is Heng-shan Calligraphy Park?

Although it takes up quite a significant amount of space, Heng-shan Calligraphy Park is incredibly well connected. With the HSR Taoyuan train and bus station within walking distance, plus Gloria Outlets Mall and Xpark Aquarium Taoyuan in close proximity to the South side of the park, it’s very easy to find and enjoy Heng-shan Calligraphy Park.
