Wusheng Night Market: West Central Tainan

Red and yellow flags waving with people at Wusheng Night Market

Wusheng Night Market is Tainan’s oldest night market, feeding the West Central District of Tainan since 1984. Located just under a 20 minute walk from the cultural Shennong Street and ancient Tainan Grand Matsu Temple, Wusheng Night Market is among the best night markets in Tainan for visitors staying in central Tainan, along with Yonghua Night Market.

Tainan Garden Night Market may be the unofficial best and largest night market in Tainan, however it’s quite challenging to get to because it’s in the North District. Wusheng Night Market, on the other hand, is within walking distance from hotels in central Tainan. Perhaps that’s why it’s Tainan’s third largest night market, second behind Dadong Night Market in Tainan’s East District.

Surprisingly, even with its central location, one of the highlights of Wusheng Night Market is that it’s much less packed than Tainan Garden Night Market. It also features many of the same vendors, so there’s not that huge a difference in terms of food options.

Wusheng Night Market Opening Hours

Wusheng Night Market is open on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. This is, perhaps, the most significant distinction between the big three – Wusheng, Dadong, and Garden – night markets in Tainan, as Da-dong is only open on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, while Garden is open on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

If you know your Taiwanese night markets, then you’ll know that opening times start late and go well into the night. This is the case for Wusheng Night Market opening hours, where stalls open at 5pm and close at or before 12am midnight. Peak hours are between 7pm to 10pm.

Wusheng Night Market Food

There’s a variety of food to choose from at Wusheng Night Market, from classics like stinky tofu to fried chicken and Thai baked banana crepes. There’s even inventive stuff like pot burn onion pancake, a play on Tainan’s famous pot burn noodles.

And food isn’t all there is to enjoy at this famous night market in Tainan. When it comes to entertainment at Wusheng Night Market, a lot of traditional Taiwanese games are present like fish catching, target practice, darts, and archery.

How to get to Wusheng Night Market

Thanks to Wusheng Night Market being super centrally located, you can easily get your night market fix if you stay by Haian Road or Shennong Street. Simply plop the address into your maps and let your phone do the hard work.

You can also take the bus to Wusheng Night Market by taking bus no.3 from Tainan Train Station North (南火車站(北站)) to Wenxian Junior High School (文賢國中) and walking the rest of the way.
